Gloss or matte carbon: which finish should you choose?

Gloss carbon has a deep, wet-look clear coat that makes the weave pop and matches most aftermarket gloss carbon parts. Matte carbon has a satin, low-glare finish that cuts reflections in direct sun, hides fingerprints better and sits closer to the open-pore look of BMW's M Performance interior trim. Both use the same real carbon, the same Alcantara and the same OEM fitment.

Carbon fiber & Alcantara vs. the OEM M Performance console

BMW's own M Performance carbon center console trim (part no. 51162358358) uses open-pore carbon only. Our version combines real carbon fiber, in gloss or matte, with Alcantara suede for a two-texture, motorsport-style finish, and it is built to the same OEM shape and clip points, so it installs like a factory part.

Installation

Does this fit a manual F80 M3 or F82 M4?

No. This trim is shaped for the 7-speed M-DCT gear selector. Manual cars use a different console and shifter boot.

Is it real carbon fiber?

Yes. It is real 3K 2x2 twill carbon fiber laid over a rigid ABS core and finished in a UV-resistant gloss or matte clear coat. It is not a vinyl wrap, hydro-dip or carbon-look print.

What is the difference between the gloss and matte versions?

Only the clear coat. Gloss is shiny and high-contrast; matte is satin and low-glare. Material, fit and installation are identical.

Is it a stick-on cover or a full replacement?

A full replacement. Your factory panel comes out and this one clips in, so there are no raised edges or adhesive that can lift over time.

Does it need coding or programming?

No. It is a trim-only upgrade. All buttons, the gear selector and the drive-mode controls work exactly as before.

Will it fit an F30 3 Series, F32 4 Series or F87 M2?

No. Those cars use a different center console shape. This part is specific to the F80 M3 and F82/F83 M4 with M-DCT.
